Monday December 1, 2003 -- Ritzy Glade Runners... Across the glades we rolled again. This time we did not forget to look at the gas gauge before setting out. No problems, no double backs. We made good time across and headed to the Ritz in Coconut Grove, again. This time we had a smaller room, but a notably quieter one. Janice continued to show her super trooper status by putting up with another trip to the fronton. This time it was Miami Jai Alai. The food was much more inline with traditional fronton/race track/dog track fare. That is, not so good. Another fine day. Tuesday December 2, 2003 -- Return to Freedom...We woke up reasonably early so that I could get to the airport. One of Janice's friends from UCSB was visiting Miami. Patti joined us for the ride to MIA. I don't remember much else of the day. I arrived in SXM, grabbed a cab and joined Gil on Freedom. Wednesday December 3, 2003 -- Solo Again... Gil set off for NYC today. I relaxed a bit. Nothing else noteworthy happened that I remember. Thursday December 4, 2003 -- Shining Happy People... I polished stainless steel and chrome in the hot sun today. Sounds fun, eh. It's as thrilling as it sounds. But the metal looks much better, so it's gratifying work at least. Get used to these types entries, there are a lot of them coming...the work is not particularly glamorous to do or write about. But it's what I was doing Friday December 5, 2003 -- Taking a Shine to Freedom... Another day on polishing duty...the boat is really starting to shape up. The davits in particular are really looking great. They're chrome but had taken a beating with salt water spray and the rust stains were all over the place. But some Wichinox metal polish really did the job. I'm pretty damn proud of them. Saturday December 6, 2003 -- Next up the fiberglass... Another day of polishing, but today it was the fiberglass surfaces. I don't particularly like the polishing product Gil wants to use, but it's his boat so I'll use what he wants. It just doesn't give the shine I'd like to see. This polishing stuff is hot and sweaty work -- the sun just beats down on one while doing it. I got about 25% of the boat done with 2 coats. Sunday December 7, 2003 -- More Sweating in the Sun... Another 25% of the boat got a pair of of coats of polish. Sweat, sweat, sweat. I was so hot I jumped in the water and swam 300 yards to the marina office. 3 Euros in my pocket allowed me to buy a pair of sodas. That helped. I felt better and went back to polishing.
Still to come: Martinique, Peter Island, Tortola, Peter Island, Bad Airport JuJu continues, Pelham, DC, Home for the holidays, and so on |
