And, The Results Are in...

The Day of Pork Soups was a gastrological success.  I am fully past the food poisoning.  So, I'm back to looking for good and fun stuff.

And, I 'm gonna return to Laksa regularly.   Last night's kopitiam was enticing enough that I hit it twice today.  Among other things, I need to get walking again.  And, it's more than a block away.

Brunch (I never fall asleep early enough to wake up early enough to eat breakfast) was Laksa at last night's joint.

This one was good but in a weird way.  I always order it without prawns (shrimp are always called prawns here).  A good prawn is a fine thing.  But a good prawn is hard to find.  Mediocre ones are prevalent and bad ones,...yuck.  Amazingly, this time they took RM 2 off the price.  That will get my return business with certainty.  I never ask, because when the list price is less than $3.00, well.

I think they loaded it with extra omelette (paper thin and cut into strips) and shredded chicken.  And that was really good.  But there was a depth of flavor that just felt lacking when I ate it.  Maybe too much chicken and egg?  But then when I took a sip of the soup.  WOW!  Loaded with sour, kick, and Lemak.  Best Laksa broth yet.

From their effort today, I'm going to get a large portion tomorrow (RM 14 vs. RM 11) and get the prawns.  They seem to do shit right.  That gets my willingness to take a risk up.  Maybe the prawns would carry into the noodles?  It could be brilliant.

Walked a bit afterwards.  Went to the telecom place to add TV to my internet package. Cheapest package with sports they have.  Because streaming when the neighbors get home is awful.  So I've upped my speed to 1Gb/s.  And added TV.  My bill will be RM 325.  I almost choked.  Until I realized my 1Gb/service at home was $125 (nuked before I left).  And, I had just cancelled Hulu, ESPN+, and Direct stream which was over $175 total.  I just went from $300/mo. to $80/mo.  WINNER.

Depending on their Rugby, Cycling, and Cricket coverage, I may need to keep the VPN and a few US other services.  But, who cares.

A quick haircut.  Zipped everything down with a #1 comb (3mm,1/8th in.) set me back RM 12.  With a 20% tip.

Also picked up a few new lightweight polo shirts.  I'll be pimping Team Mercedes AMG Petronas a bit.  I can do that.  A white one and a black one.  One to stain with laksa, one to swear at because black is hot and I already have too many black tees.

Made it home without dying of heatstroke.  Remember, it's a dry daytime heat. Jim.  And, it really is.  But 90F still leads to a lot of sweat. Daytime requires the Tilley.

Walked back to the Bak Kut Teh/Laksa kopitiam for the 3rd meal in a row.  The humidity was kicking up.  Went to the same vendor as last night.  Tonight was Babi Kicap - braised pork belly.  I am a pork fiend!

No veggies in the braise.  That made it thin, flabby in the mouth, and just soy.  But the pork!  Especially the meat!  I'm usually all about that fat.  Not tonight.  I left broth in the bowl.  But not an ounce of meat.  The honey lemonade was very good too. Gonna have to explore some other porky options.

Got home doused in sweat.  Like no-choice-but shower level covered in sweat.

A little later I wanted dessert.  So I went to one of my favorite places.  A little mamak 2.5 blocks away.  2 roti canai susu (evaporated milk) with hot sweet tea.  Just right.

A quick load of laundry.  A little babbling on Bluesky.  Now this.  And, I'm going to try an earlier bedtime tonight.  Live Tour de France with bad buffering sucks.  And it's a flat stage.  The next 2 days will be sadistic in the Alps.  Utterly sadistic.  And, pro cycling is all about suffering.  There will be much to be seen.
